Qutab Minar Complex

World Heritage Site15 kilometers to the south of Central Delhi is the sprawling complex which houses one of Delhi's most known landmarks. The Qutab Minar. Though known primarily for the tower, there are quite a few other things in the area. A few tombs, a madrassa, the famous iron pillar, and Alai Minar to name a few. The buildings at this site werwe built during three main periods of rule, with the exception of the fourth century iron pillar.

larger viewThe fourth and fifth storeys of the Qutab Minar were added by Firoz Shah Tughlaq.
- Qutb-ud-din Aibak built the Quwwat-ul-islam mosque and the first storey of the Qutab Minar
- Iltutmish added the second and third storeys of the Qutab Minar and 6 more arches to the Quwwat-ul-islam mosque. Built his own tomb too.
- Alauddin Khalji added a southern entrance to the Quwwat-ul-islam mosque, the Alai Darwaza, the base of Alai Minar and a madrassa.
